The Future of Reading
This Bangor ESRC Impact Acceleration Account funded project is intended to deliver impact by increasing eBook production and discovery of digital narratives (“born-digital” stories that include interactivity, gameplay, multi-media, and/or nonlinear structures) for professional writers, publishers, and readers. Dr Lyle Skains (PI), Dr Eben Muse (Co-I), and their collaborative partners will deliver the Bangor ESRC Impact Acceleration Account-funded project, The Future of Reading, through a series of workshops with professional writers, publishers and readers in June and July 2016. These workshops are accompanied by exhibitions and will:

  • Encourage professional writers to innovate, professionalise and streamline prose publishing, e.g., through e-book publishing;
  • Explore and implement alternative, independent publishing, and;
  • Raise awareness of contemporary methods of disseminating creative prose and the implications for reading prose.

The workshops are for:

  • Professional writers seeking to publish prose;
  • Writers interested in composing born-digital texts for web and mobile applications, and;
  • Publishers seeking out new development streams and platforms for professional and academic texts.

Underpinning research
Dr Lyle Skains and Dr Eben Muse, as a foundation for their 2016 Bangor Impact Acceleration Account-funded The Future of Reading project, partnered with BECTU Wales to deliver public workshops on digital publishing in 2014 and 2015. These workshops informed professional writers about prose and media opportunities for their writing in Welsh and in English, and trained the participants in the styles and tools offered by contemporary online, participatory and multimodal media. Please see: Dr Lyle Skains and Dr Eben Muse for further information.

Ymchwil Sylfaenol
Fel sylfaen ar gyfer eu prosiect, The Future of Reading, a ariennir gan Gyfrif Cyflymu Effaith Bangor 2016, aeth Dr Lyle Skains a Dr Eben Muse ati, ynghyd â BECTU Cymru, i gynnal gweithdai cyhoeddus ar gyhoeddi digidol yn 2014 a 2015. Bu’r gweithdai hyn yn fodd o roi gwybod i awduron proffesiynol am gyfleoedd ysgrifennu o ran rhyddiaith a chyfryngau yn Gymraeg a Saesneg, ac o hyfforddi’r cyfranogwyr yn yr arddulliau a’r offer sy’n cael eu cynnig gan gyfryngau ar-lein, cyfranogol ac aml-foddol cyfoes.
