The project further intends to influence business practices for environmental protection. Workshops at dive centres in the Philippines will educate marine tourism industry representatives on harmful practices to the marine environment; and methods to mitigate damage.

This project is funded under the RCUK’s Global Challenges Research Fund initiative, a £1.5 billion fund announced by the UK Government to support research and impact that addresses the challenges faced by developing countries.

Nod y Gymrodoriaeth Cyfnewid Gwybodaeth hon gyda’r Reef World Foundation yw cadwraeth cynefinoedd riffiau cwrel drwy newid ymddygiad sgwba-ddeifwyr i’w cael i leihau faint y maen nhw’n ei gyffwrdd ar y riffiau cwrel. Hefyd, mae’r prosiect yn bwriadu dylanwadu ar arferion busnes er mwyn gwarchod yr amgylchedd. Cynhelir gweithdai mewn canolfannau deifio yn Ynysoedd y Philipinau i addysgu cynrychiolwyr y diwydiant twristiaeth am arferion sy’n niweidiol i amgylchedd y môr; ac am ddulliau i liniaru’r difrod.

Gan y bydd y Reef World Foundation yn parhau i weithio i leihau effaith deifio ar leoliadau deifio allweddol, bydd effaith ychwanegol y gweithgareddau, maes o law, i’w gweld ar gymunedau lleol lle ceir canolfannau deifio poblogaidd yn Ynysoedd y Philipinau, a hynny yn sgil y gweithgarwch economaidd a ddaw yn sgil twristiaeth sgwba-ddeifio sy’n amgylcheddol gynaliadwy.

Ariennir y prosiect hwn gan fenter Cronfa Ymchwil Heriau Byd-eang Cyngor Ymchwil y Deyrnas Unedig, sef cronfa gwerth £1.5 biliwn a gyhoeddwyd gan Lywodraeth y Deyrnas Unedig i gefnogi ymchwil ac effaith sy’n mynd i’r afael â’r heriau y mae gweledydd sy’n datblygu yn eu hwynebu.
